Teachers and other educators serving in the upcoming May 12 national and local elections will get higher pay and extra benefits, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec). This is to recognize their efforts in making sure the elections run smoothly and fairly.

New Honorarium Rates

Comelec has announced the updated pay rates for the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs). The new amounts are:

  • Chairperson: PHP 12,000
  • Poll Clerk: PHP 11,000
  • Third Member: PHP 10,000
  • Support Staff: PHP 8,000

Comparison with 2022 Elections

The 2024 rates are higher than those in the 2022 elections, where the chairperson received PHP 10,000, and the poll clerk and third member got PHP 9,000. Support staff were paid PHP 6,000. This increase shows the government’s effort to fairly compensate educators for their work during elections.

Acknowledging Teachers' Efforts

Teachers help make elections organized and fair. They assist voters, follow election rules, and ensure votes are counted properly. The higher pay is meant to appreciate their efforts and provide fair earnings for their work.

Additional Support

Aside from the increased honorarium, Comelec is also looking into giving extra allowances for transportation, food, and communication. These will help lessen the difficulties faced by educators during election duty.

The improved pay for teachers in the May 12 elections shows the government’s gratitude for their work. These changes are a step towards giving them the support they deserve.
