New Annual Observances Declared by President Marcos
In addition to the non-working holidays, President Marcos has designated new annual observances to raise public awareness on various national interests:
National Myopia Consciousness Week: Proclaimed to be observed every second week of October each year, this awareness campaign aims to educate the public on the dangers of myopia and encourage early eye care.
Transport Cooperative Day: Every October 19, the country will observe Transport Cooperative Day, recognizing the contribution of transport cooperatives in advancing public transportation. Under Proclamation No. 723, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the Office of Transportation Cooperatives are tasked with leading the celebration, with support from other government agencies, local government units, non-government organizations, and the private sector.
Philippine Architecture Festival – National Architecture Month: For the month of December each year, the nation will celebrate the Philippine Architecture Festival, under Proclamation No. 724. This month-long observance replaces the previous Architecture Week, originally designated in 1971 by Proclamation 934. Now, the entire month will highlight architecture’s critical role in urban planning, sustainability, and national development, led by the Professional Regulation Commission’s Board of Architecture.
These proclamations underscore the Marcos administration’s commitment to recognizing local events and national sectors contributing to the country’s cultural and social progress. In tandem with these new observances, the administration also released the list of regular holidays for 2025, ensuring ample time for Filipinos to participate in and celebrate both local and national traditions.
