Gov't Workers to Receive Mid-Year Bonus this First Tranche of Salary Increase

Government workers in the Philippines are set to receive their mid-year bonus in addition to the first tranche of their salary increase for 2024. This development was confirmed by Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman on Monday, who announced that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has already released the necessary guidelines for the salary adjustments.

In a chance interview at Malacañang, Pangandaman emphasized that the salary increase is retroactive from January 2024, and it will include the mid-year bonus. "Retroactive from January [2024], kasama din ang mid-year bonus," she stated, underlining that the adjustments are expected to be distributed as early as this month, depending on the individual government agencies.

The DBM has already disseminated its guidelines to all national government agencies, directing them to begin the computation and implementation of the salary adjustments. "Itong month na ito maibibigay ang retroactive nila [pero] depende sa agency," Pangandaman explained, noting that the release of the retroactive salary increase and the mid-year bonus will vary by agency.

This salary increase marks the beginning of a four-year plan designed to boost the compensation of government employees. The plan, which is set to start retroactively from January 2024, will continue with further adjustments each year until January 2027.

Government workers can anticipate receiving the benefits of this plan starting this August, as agencies work to process and distribute the adjusted salaries and bonuses as per the DBM's guidelines.
