With February just around the corner, it's time to mark your calendars for the first long weekend of the year. On February 8, a Muslim holiday will be observed in specific areas as per the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos - Public Information (NCMF) memo.
This holiday will only be officially observed in several provinces and cities, including
- Basilan
- Lanao del Norte
- Lanao del Sur
- Maguindanao
- North Cotabato
- Sultan Kudarat
- Sulu
- Tawi-Tawi
- Zamboanga del Sur
- Zamboanga del Norte
- Cotabato
- Iligan
- Marawi
- Pagadian
- Zamboanga
Additionally, on February 9, a special non-working day has been declared through Proclamation No. 453.
It's important to note that February 8 is not a nationwide holiday, so some areas may have regular work and school schedules. However, for those in the designated areas, this long weekend offers an opportunity to rest, relax, and spend time with loved ones. If you're looking for ways to make the most of your free time, consider exploring local attractions, trying new restaurants, or simply enjoying some much needed downtime at home.
In Tiaong, Quezon, the holiday on February 8 will also commemorate the birth anniversary of former senator Claro M. Recto, as declared by Malacañang. Whether you're celebrating a holiday or simply taking advantage of a long weekend, make sure to take care of yourself and those around you.
Happy long weekend!
