GOOD NEWS! PRC considers INSET and other DepEd Training for CPD Units

On January 24, 2024, a meeting was held between the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the ACT Teachers Party-list, ACT Philippines, and ACT NCR Union. The meeting was attended by Chairperson Hon. Charito Zamora, Commissioners Erwin Enad and Jose Cueto, and Regulations Office Director Atty. Maria Liza Hernandez from the PRC, and ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro, ACT Chairperson Vladimer Quetua, ACT NCR Union President Ruby Ana Bernado, and ACT NCR Union North Cluster Vice President Wilhelmina Vibar from the teaching sector.

Two issues were discussed during the meeting: CPD requirements/undertakings/programs and DepEd's automatic credit unit encoding mechanism for the recognition of credit units earned through school-based, district, division, and regional-level seminars and training sessions.

The Commission's response to the concerns raised by teachers regarding the recognition of CPD units was positive. They will release "issuances" to extend the undertaking period while DepEd and PRC are still fixing their mechanism and system.

This means that teachers who are worried about how they will obtain 15 credit units this year will be allowed to renew their PRC ID/License even without these units.

The ongoing Insets in schools and other DepEd seminars will also be recognized by PRC as CPD Units. The PRC will release mechanisms and issuances on this matter.

This dialogue proves that through advocacy, more can be achieved. We must fight for our rights to a decent and sustainable salary, sufficient benefits, and a good teaching environment. By doing so, we can achieve more and continue to make progress in the education sector.
