PBBM Launches Comprehensive Initiative to Elevate Teacher Salaries and Benefits
In a significant move aimed at enhancing the welfare of educators across the nation, the Presidential Communication Office announced that President Bongbong Marcos has taken proactive measures to ensure a sustained and substantial salary increase for teachers.
With an unwavering commitment to fulfilling his campaign promise of prioritizing the education sector, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Education (DepEd) to embark on a comprehensive and forward-looking study to develop a long-term strategy for elevating teachers' salaries. This initiative is in addition to the regular wage increments stipulated by the Salary Standardization Law.
Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte reaffirmed the administration's dedication to improving teachers' compensation. "Yes, indeed. We have increases under the Salary Standardization Law, provided in tranches annually," Vice President Duterte stated, responding to inquiries about the timeline for implementing President Marcos's pledge of higher wages for public school teachers.
The dynamic duo of Vice President Duterte and President Marcos recently participated in the "Brigada Eskwela" activities held at Victorino Mapa High School in Barangay San Miguel, Manila City. During the event, President Marcos demonstrated his enduring support for education by donating Php1 million to the school, along with essential supplies such as paints and cleaning materials.
In an exclusive interview, Vice President Duterte underscored the comprehensive nature of the study, emphasizing that it encompasses salary enhancements not only for teaching staff but also for non-teaching personnel within the DepEd. “So, we are waiting for the result of that study na nandoon ‘yung increases and then nandoon din ‘yung pagkumpara niya sa inflation at sa mga economic indicators, forecast ng economic indicators sa mga darating na taon," she added.
This groundbreaking initiative underscores the administration's proactive approach to addressing the needs of the education sector and ensuring the well-being of the invaluable individuals who shape the future of the nation. The comprehensive study is poised to set a transformative course for teacher salaries, further bolstering the educational landscape and empowering educators nationwide.
